Artwork #1 | Adornment (Art Installation)

Last year during my course we given a one week brief entitled 'Adornment'. This was madness because during the brief I was performing a week long performance.

I was designing my installations in my dressing room every night, though I rather enjoyed it because I gave me something to do during whilst waiting for cast members.

Adornment refers to decoration on body such as over exaggerating a feature. It doesn't have to be too extreme but enough to be abnormal.

I chose to adorn the classic character Snow White.
We all know how the story goes, like all Princesses we expect to have a happy ending.

For art installation/costume I wanted to interpret the over exaggerated side of death but with nature.

The skin colored tights represent skin, stretched apart to form the tree trunk.

This was carefully stitched together to create an oval pattern.

As for the green miss-cut and shapes to form the corset- to obviously represent to leaves of the tree.
The trail of leaves represents poison ivy, the time Snow White would have been dead with nature wrapping itself around her body.

I'm trying to show beauty of death using nature, roughly this took around six hours to make.

It took thirty minutes to take it down, pin by pin.

I wish I had a little more time so the entire thing could have been sewn into or on a garment.

Costume design and making is one of my favorite things, I was introduced to it when I was 12 years old by my Performing Art company - some costumes we're given a new lease of life for each production, sometimes made out of curtains. My director inspired me to get into acting and also the back stage side to it too.

Cheerio for now, Lucy x

Charity Shop Thrift #1 | Daring Denim

Bargain hunting is such an enjoyable hobby and also much kinder to your purse.

After a recent trip in to town, I went to have a look around my local charity shops - it's a weekend with no homework, with plenty of free time and I'm not broke of course it's an excuse to shop.

I've been searching for a denim A-line mini skirt for quite a while, which would of course fit my budget. I went into Urban Outfitters, Topshop, New Look and even Primark (on a Saturday and let's be honest, it's total and utter carnage on a Saturday!) I thought about how I would be lucky to get a well made one for under £20.

Popped into my local Sue Ryder shop and only to find a beautiful, brand new denim A-Line mini skirt by M&S. After researching the product online, it came to the hefty price of £29.50.
My denim skirt cost me £3.95.

The skirt made a very cute addition to my autumnal clothing, however this cute little number can be worn with anything and at any time of the year making it an essential.

I put this with my thin, mustard knit style jumper (Atmosphere, gift) (anything thicker wouldn't compliment the figure however thick knitted tights would probably work, so for next item I put my pair of dark rouge thin tights (Atmosphere, £2.50 for a pack of 3), sort of creating a primary colored outfit.

For my final addition I added my brand new mock docs (Revolve, £5).

I also bought one of my favorite classic bands on vinyl, ABBA ( Sue Ryder, £1.95)

The vinyl was in total pristine condition - not a single scratch!

ABBA is one of my secretly, guilty pleasures when completing a mountain of coursework.

A new read was bought too, the Puffin's newly published version 'Of Mice And Men' (£0.95) and a new cute paper star light originally from IKEA (£1.95), all from Sue Ryder.

Cheerio m'dears, Lucy x

January 2016 | Welcome

This is probably one of those never going to continue blogs made as 'drunk' resolution. Truth is, it's really not, I'm trying to focus on building on audience like I did when I was 14 years old, a young blogger with over 42K followers.

The purpose of this blog is really to show what I do - call it cake and handing you a slice each week, fresh, new and totally different.

You'll probably see the following on this blog:

  • Reviews - I have dyslexia and I really struggle to give really 'wordy' reviews, so I review with illustrations - a more simplified way of recommending.
  • Charity Shop Finds - I adore charity shops, I became a much loved thrifter last year when I was horrified to discover the majority of my favourite brands involved with either 'Slave Labour' and 'Human Traffiking'. Shopping at charity shops enables me to budget for clothing and save towards the necessaries I need in life. So the plan is to post things I've bought such as clothing and accessories. I've also been a charity shop sales assiant too, and volunteering to sell and raise money for certain charities is although totally wonderful, the public really don't reliase how much effort goes into it!
  • News - The hope is to post about upcoming productions I'm appearing in and collaborations with artists.
  • Artwork - I am currently studying on a two year course of UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 3 Art & Design: Fine Art and the plan to showcase my artwork; sketches, art installations ect via this blog too.
The blogging adventure will be begin tomorrow m'dears, for now farewell.
